Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Family,
Despite living with multiple myeloma for many years—my husband, colleague, and the father of our children—Bill Reimer, died unexpectedly from what appeared to be heart failure on Monday July 15, 2024.
A witness cremation for family and close friends took place the following week on Friday August 2. A Celebration of Life was held in Vancouver on Saturday September 21 and another will be held in Montreal on Sunday October 20, 2024 at Loyola Chapel, Concordia University.
I have received condolences from many of you already, all of them bringing tears to my eyes as each of your memories of Bill bring forward memories of my own. Thank you. Together with visits from my children, grandchildren, and siblings, your messages of love and support are keeping me strong.

Welcome to Bill’s web workshop. Although he will no longer be managing and updating his web site, we have decided to keep it operational given the depth of useful and interesting information it contains. It includes materials to bring you up-to-date regarding our personal activities (see links to the right) and some pages regarding more long term contributions. The latter pages are divided into 3 groups:
- Research: Much of this relates to his work on the New Rural Economy Project. This is a national research project on rural Canada that he directed between 1997 and 2008. Recently, he was willingly seduced into the development and organization of the Rural Policy Learning Commons. This is an international 7-year rural and northern research partnership primarily funded by SSHRC.
- Teaching: These materials are related to his teaching activities — mostly at Concordia University. You will find his course materials here.
- Personal: This is the stuff that relates to the more personal aspects of his life. High up there are his children and grandchildren, of course!
If you find something here to be of interest, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me, his wife, at: frances.shaver@concordia.ca

Bonjour à vous deux!
Hope travels are going smoothly. You left Île Bigras in true style – a power failure to get you off in time!! Keep on “truckin” and arrive safely.
